Tijuana - Baja California
Tijuana – Baja California

The state of Baja California Norte is in the northern part of the peninsula that has the same name, between two crystalline bodies of water: the Pacific to the west and the Gulf of California to the east. Discover the beaches, caves and breakwaters, explore small towns and huge canyons, and enjoy the great energy and excitement of the cities.

Mexicali is the capital of the state and is located near the border with California. This city has a fascinating cultural fusion and great Chinese heritage, as well as a fabulous local art scene and delicious culinary traditions.

Head to the lively border city of Tijuana, which is a 30-minute drive from San Diego. Stroll through the downtown area and walk along Avenida Revolución along with the other tourists.

The beaches of Rosarito and Ensenada are in the surroundings. Cycle between the two cities during the bi-annual cycling event that takes place in April and September. Celebrate the end of the 50-mile (80-kilometer) ride with a glass of wine from the surrounding vineyards. You can find more vineyards in Valle de Guadalupe, La Joya and Tecate. Sample delicious fresh seafood in Puerto Nuevo, a beach community located on the Pacific coast that is famous for its lobsters.

For a luxury resort-style vacation, head to San Felipe. This former fishing village has a beautiful boardwalk and stunning beaches on the Sea of Cortez. The island of Guadalupe, located off the coast of the peninsula, has crystal clear waters full of marine life, making it an ideal place for snorkeling and diving excursions.

Explore the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park to hike and camp in the nature of Baja California. In this place, impressive mountains dominate the landscape and you can see condors slowly circling over them. Sail to the pristine beaches of Partida Island and the other islands of the San Lorenzo Archipelago Marine National Park.

To get to Baja California Norte, you can take a flight to the international airports of Mexicali and Tijuana. There are six border crossings from Baja California to the United States, and trucks pass from one side to the other several times a day. Visit Tijuana in October to sample the delights of the Baja California Culinary Festival, which takes place every year.
