The Hidalgo Secretary of Tourism in Mexico has announced that Pachuca will host the “Hidalgo is in Carnival” parade, one of the country’s most joyous traditions. The parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 18th, and is expected to draw more than 30,000 tourists from across the country. The carnival features the participation of more than 52 “comparsas” and 50 municipalities from across the state, who spend a year preparing for the festivities to keep the traditions alive. Visitors will enjoy the most representative gastronomy and crafts from the different regions participating in this event.
Despite the fact that carnival celebrations originate from Catholic-Christian traditions, it is now known worldwide and attracts thousands of tourists. The Hidalgo Secretary of Tourism is organizing the event to reflect cultural syncretism, as the carnival is celebrated in Latin America as a cultural “inheritance” from the Spanish and Portuguese conquerors.
The carnival event is part of a tradition in Hidalgo that continues to grow, with thousands of families coming together to observe the different troupes from various municipalities. Popular characters such as the “mecos,” “pintados,” “old men,” and “captains” are set to appear at the carnival, and the event will be attended by institutions such as the Municipal Presidency of Pachuca, Public Works, Civil Protection, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Mobility and Transportation.
This year’s carnival will have the presence of the state governor, Julio Menchaca Salazar, who will join thousands of families to share the wonderful experience of seeing the troupes and costumes in a day full of fun and family recreation. The event is an opportunity to learn more about the culture and customs of the different participating regions, with families invited to enjoy the festive atmosphere and experience a short trip through Hidalgo’s municipalities.
