The Hidalgo Secretary of Tourism in Mexico is using the audiovisual market to promote the natural beauties of the region, including a series of 36 episodes called “Aquilesva”, with Chef Aquiles, focused on local gastronomy. The region is also launching a WhatsApp centre which allows tourists to access information on the local area, including places to stay and eat, and activities available.
The centre can be accessed through a QR code or a number, which will provide automatic information to help guide visitors. Hidalgo is the first region to offer this service and plans to work with other nearby states to showcase what the region has to offer.
Gabriela Samperio, director of tourist programs and strategic alliances of the secretariat, announced that the region will record four video clips, which will be part of the launch of a singer. Hidalgo will also be featured in the new series “Gallo de Oro”, which will be broadcast on the VIX streaming platform. The adaptation of the work by Juan Rulfo will star Lucero and José Ron.
The region is also working on a number of new tourist products including “Pueblos con Sabor”, which recognises municipalities for their gastronomy. The brand will be reviewed, although no further details were provided. The region’s seven Magical Towns will be supported to remain in the federal programme to ensure the regulation of tourism activity in each. Finally, the region will develop a programme called “We are the heart of Mexico”, which will generate circuits with neighbouring states to encourage tourism.
Cinematography is an important niche for the region, with some producers using local services, including extras, audio equipment and catering. The locations are also covered with donations or payment, which provides a further economic boost for the region.
