In a promising forecast, Elizabeth Quintanar, the visionary head of Tourism in Hidalgo, has unveiled a captivating vision for the region’s future. Envisioning a threefold surge in nature tourism, she has pinpointed agrotourism and ethnotourism as the driving forces propelling this anticipated growth. The allure lies in the immersive experience these forms of tourism offer, enabling visitors to authentically engage with local inhabitants, witness agricultural practices, follow artisanal techniques from field to final product, and even relish the flavors firsthand.
With an aim to catalyze this evolution, Quintanar recently embarked on a visit to Finca Castel de Oro, nestled in the picturesque Valle del Mezquital. The farm is renowned for its production of distillates, and her visit served a dual purpose: to extend a helping hand in shaping a remarkable tourism venture and to extend the governmental support essential for such projects.
A resolute Quintanar emphasized, “Our Ministry of Tourism is unwavering in its commitment to bolster this sector. The remarkable endeavors undertaken by Finca Castel de Oro deserve recognition, evident from their medal-acclaimed products. This attests to the commendable quality and excellence embedded in their offerings.”
She further elaborated, “Every player in the service sector deserves unwavering support, a commitment we are dedicated to fulfill. With our guidance and backing, we dare to envision a landscape, five years hence, where the number of companies providing enriching tourist encounters will triple.”
Ownership of Castel de Oro Farm rests with Trinidad Cruz and Gregorio Shapers. Notably, Shapers, hailing from Germany, pursued Latin American Sciences in his homeland prior to channeling his energies into a series of transformative social initiatives in Chilcuautla municipality. His journey brought him to Hidalgo a quarter-century ago, and the farm stands as a testament to his passion.
The farm is a cradle of diverse produce, spanning from the revered maguey honey – celebrated as Mexico’s natural sugar – to internationally acclaimed distillates, securing accolades from Spirits Selections. This array of offerings, steeped in the heritage of the Mezquital Valley since 1803, serves as a conduit for sharing the very essence of the state with a global audience.
