Chignahuapan, a charming town known for its magical atmosphere, has recently been nominated for the prestigious title of “Best Tourist Village in the World” by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This recognition serves as a compelling reason for travelers who have yet to discover the wonders of Chignahuapan to seize the opportunity and plan a visit.
Lorenzo Rivera Nava, the municipal president, expressed his delight at the nomination and emphasized that Chignahuapan is competing against cities from around the globe based on the 2023 criteria established by the UNWTO. Marta Ornelas Guerrero, Puebla‘s tourism secretary, shared the positive news that Chignahuapan has the potential to secure this esteemed international accolade.
To contend for the title, candidates must fulfill certain criteria, with a key focus on sustainable tourism. Chignahuapan, as a prominent destination in the Sierra Norte de Puebla region renowned for its nature-oriented tourism, is well-positioned to meet these requirements. With its abundance of waterfalls, ecotourism parks, forests, and picturesque natural landscapes, the town offers a truly spectacular experience for those seeking unforgettable moments in nature.
In 2021, the title of Best Tourist Village in the World was bestowed upon the Magical Town of Cuetzalan, which now shares this distinction with 43 other cities worldwide. This serves as an inspiration for Chignahuapan and highlights the potential for it to achieve similar recognition on an international scale.
During a recent press conference, details about the upcoming Patron Saint Festivities were unveiled. One of the highlights will be the Tlacoyo Gastronomic Show, scheduled to take place on July 22 and 23. Additionally, the Barbecue and Pulque Festival will be held on July 29 and 30. These events are expected to draw a minimum of 50,000 visitors, not only from Puebla but also from other states across the country. The festivities promise to be a vibrant celebration of culture, featuring a diverse range of artistic performances, traditional dances, and various other engaging activities.
As Chignahuapan vies for the esteemed title of the Best Tourist Village in the World, its nomination serves as a testament to the town’s unique appeal and the efforts made to provide sustainable and memorable experiences for visitors.
