sightings of whales and whale sharks along the beaches. According to Luis C\u00e9sar Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez, the director of the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) in Puerto Pe\u00f1asco, these sightings, while awe-inspiring, pose no threat to humans as both species are non-aggressive.<\/p><p>Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez noted that rather than causing concern, these sightings have become an added attraction for tourists. Many are renting boats to venture out into the sea and capture photographs of these majestic creatures, enhancing their overall experience in the area.<\/p><p>Tourists are particularly drawn to witnessing these animals, which feed primarily on larvae and marine creel. Explaining further, Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez highlighted the significance of sea clams, tiny crustaceans that form the base of the ocean&#8217;s food chain, and creel, a common type of zooplankton that serves as the primary food source for whales and whale sharks.<\/p><p>The spectacle of these sightings extends beyond just those on boats; even from the shore, observers can witness the spectacle as whales occasionally breach, sending up plumes of water into the air. This adds an exciting dimension to the tourist experience along Puerto Pe\u00f1asco&#8217;s coastline.<\/p><p>Looking ahead, Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez emphasized that these sightings will be incorporated into the roster of tourist attractions in Puerto Pe\u00f1asco. To ensure the safety and well-being of these marine animals, training sessions have been conducted for boat crews, focusing on adherence to safety protocols during encounters with whales and whale sharks.<\/p><p>Mart\u00edn Mart\u00ednez, director of Municipal Tourism, underscored the importance of integrating this activity into the tourism sector&#8217;s value chain. He emphasized the need for comprehensive training involving not just boat crews but also the Auxiliary Tourism Unit to ensure sustainability and environmental consciousness.<\/p><p>Currently, Puerto Pe\u00f1asco has become a hotspot for whale watching, with sightings of four different species. These incredible creatures undertake journeys spanning up to 20,000 kilometers, traveling from the coasts of Alaska and North America to the shores of Puerto Pe\u00f1asco, adding to the region&#8217;s
